Winter isn't right around the corner, it has officially started. The first day of winter of 2014 was on December 21 st. This is a perfect time (and maybe even a little past time) to begin thinking about how to prepare for the colder temps that greet us when winter sets in. Don’t be like one of those Christmas shoppers who wait til Christmas Eve to find the perfect gift only to be let down that they sold out of that perfect gift yesterday.
Bad Weather is Brewing
November saw one of the deadliest snowfalls in Buffalo, NY with 10 fatalities reported. The truth is that it is often hard to be prepared for when the next big winter storm will come. This is why it is critical to be prepared beforehand. Stocking up on essential supplies is always a smart thing to do to help keep you and your loved ones safe. Plenty of bottled water, canned goods, a quality generator, fuel for the generator and a great electric heater are staples that should be on hand at all times…especially if you live in more frigid climates.
Don't Be Left Out in the Cold
It goes without saying, but when cold weather arrives seek immediate shelter indoors. Outside of the danger to exposure of extreme temperatures, there are other risks as well. Hundreds of people get seriously injured every year while walking after fresh snow or in icy conditions. Another critical step to take is to construct and plan to make sure your loved ones know where you are. This communication plan should be well known by everyone with a centralized rendezvous point.
